One Postdoctoral Fellow - Intelligent Multimodal Sensor Designs (RF PVN # REA-639)

Applications are invited for one postdoctoral fellow to work in the Center for Perceptual Robotics, Intelligent Sensors and Machines (PRISM) of the Grove School of Engineering at the City College of New York (CCNY).

The postdoctoral fellow will mainly work on a CCNY and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) joint project on Integrated Multi-modal Sensing, Processing, and Exploitation, sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Discovery Challenge Thrusts (DCTs). The goal of the interdisciplinary project is to conceive adaptive multi-modal sensor concepts in a ‘performance-driven’ context that addresses the challenging problems of detecting, tracking, and identifying targets in highly cluttered and dynamic scenes. This requires that the development of novel adaptive multi-modal sensing hardware concepts be closely coupled with concurrent developments in novel physics-based modeling and simulation of target scene phenomenology, environmental interactions, and breakthroughs in data processing and exploitation.

The compensation for this position is according to experience and qualifications. The post is expected to be available in Spring 2008. Initial appointment as a postdoctoral fellow will be for one year with possible renewal for additional two years.

The postdoctoral fellow will also serve as a liaison between CCNY and RIT, integrating efforts in scene simulations and sensor modeling with the novel sensor designs and exploitation algorithm development.  The postdoctoral fellow will mainly reside at the PRISM Center in New York City, but will have the opportunity to spend time at RIT to use and adapt the hyperspectral data simulation tool DIRSIG (http://dirsig.cis.rit.edu/) in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science at RIT.

Applicants for the position must have completed a PhD in electrical and computer engineering, with knowledge in detector device design, multimodal data fusion, 3D computer vision, or processing and exploitation of hyperspectral images and other signals, and should have experience with C++ in both Windows and Linux environments and be willing to learn to use new tools.
