Since September 1st 2002 I am Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, City College of New York, USA.

Previously I was Heisenberg Research fellow of the DFG at the Theory Group , Institute for Computer Science, Free University Berlin, Germany.

I am currently interested in computational geometry, discrete geometry, data structures, geometric pattern matching, and lots of nice and interesting problems.

Publications

The Problembook has appeared, so a very long story has finally come to an end.

P. Brass, W.O.J. Moser, J. Pach: Research Problems in Discrete Geometry, Springer-Verlag, ISBN: 0-387-23815-8, 69.95 USD, 500 pages, 528 open problems.

Please submit any solutions, updates and other relevant information here.

My second book `Advanced Data Structures', appeared in September 2008 with Cambridge University Press. This is not a book on object-oriented programming, but on the algorithmic side of data structures. The last public release (435 pages of October 29 2007) before I delivered it to the publisher is still available:

If you like the content, please buy the printed version, it looks very nice.

Much of the code has been tested, it is available with some minimal test environment here.

I started a third book project, a minor but I think necessary work. As soon as I reach 25 pages, I will put them here.

The fall semester 2008 has been an eventful and difficult time; in september, the book appeared, my son Clemens Mipi was born, and a week later, my mother died. Also, I am forced two give three courses, with twelve-hour teaching days on tuesday and thursday. The courses are

I did not get to make course webpages yet.

In the spring semester, I will give

I hope no other duties will hit me.

My chair removed me from all department and school committees, since we had a disagreement on release time (I don't get any). But I am in the faculty senate, in the educational policy committee, recently also in the college-wide ressources committee, and director on the board of the Auxiliary Enterprise Corporation (AEC).

My office is in R8/203.
